For when reading is hard
There are stretches where reading does not happen — tired eyes, a long drive, a day with no quiet minute in it. Hearing Scripture read aloud keeps the habit alive through those weeks instead of leaving a gap.
Listening also catches things reading misses. Most of the Bible was written to be heard aloud, and the rhythm of a passage often makes plain what the eye skims past.
Listening by theme
Choose a theme and listen to the verses gathered under it. It works well in the ordinary gaps — a commute, a walk, the washing up — where a chapter would be too much but a few verses fit.
If a verse stops you, it is worth going back and hearing it twice. Repetition is what makes a passage stay.
